Overview

HR&A supported the development, launch, and implementation of the Nashville Innovation Alliance, a groundbreaking public-private partnership that brings together the region’s innovation organizations to foster collaboration and build a vibrant, inclusive innovation ecosystem. With the Alliance’s successful launch in July 2024, Nashville is positioned to grow its strengths in technology, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Project

While Nashville’s growing innovation landscape includes multiple higher educational organizations, corporate innovators and other institutions, their individual contributions to the region’s overall innovation economy were not always aligned to maximize impact. HR&A worked closely with founding organizations across public, private, civic, and educational sectors to design the Alliance’s structure and big-picture goals to create a tech ecosystem that is greater than the sum of its parts. We supported the identification of key leadership through Steering Committee formation and helped establish the Alliance’s vision, strategy, and operational framework to ensure effective governance and sustainable implementation of ambitious regional goals.

Since the Alliance’s launch, HR&A has continued providing support for implementation of transformative initiatives including inclusive workforce development programs, efforts to strengthen Nashville’s brand as a technology destination, and the Nashville Tech Studio, an innovative program that leverages local university technology and expertise to pilot solutions addressing complex public challenges. We have created a comprehensive program plan, facilitated engagement between academic institutions and private partners, and built new programs to support matchmaking amongst academic and city staff to solve the city’s challenges using new technologies. These efforts are positioning Nashville as a model for how cities can harness their academic and innovation assets to solve real-world problems while building stronger public-private collaboration networks.
