Jersey City Redevelopment Agency
The Centre Pompidou is bringing Europe’s largest modern art museum to Jersey City’s Journal Square, creating a cultural destination poised to attract global visitors while serving local communities. HR&A developed the operating model, budget, and impact assessment for this transformative 2027 opening, guiding strategic decisions that will establish a thriving cultural district.
The Jersey City Redevelopment Agency and City of Jersey City are collaborating with Centre Pompidou to establish a leading arts institution in Journal Square that serves as both an international destination and community cultural hub. JCRA needed comprehensive analysis to guide operational design and planning ahead of the Museum’s 2027 opening. HR&A collaborated with JCRA and Centre Pompidou teams to understand programmatic offerings, then developed estimates for visitation, revenue, and expenses under multiple programming scenarios using national studies, data from comparable museums, and outreach to select institutions.
HR&A conducted an impact study assessing economic, fiscal, and community benefits of construction and operation. The analysis projects benefits to Jersey City and New Jersey including employment creation, economic activity, tax revenue, increased transit usage, real estate appreciation, and cultural district development. These findings are informing JCRA and its collaborators as they refine operational design and advance planning for this transformative cultural institution.
